I am very happy to present to you my newest cover, While Your Lips Are Still Red from one of my all-time favorite bands, Nightwish! I had the privilege to watch Nightwish (with Floor) early this year in Singapore, and I was very lucky that my position was just right in front of Marco and Tuomas (I stood 1st row). When Marco sang that first 'sweet little words...', I couldn't help myself - I started crying. I waited 9 years to be on that show. It was so crazy that it was really happening. I have been wanting to do a cover of this song for the longest time, but that concert cemented the idea that I need to do it. Like usual, I put my own twist and stripped it bare. I told Lexy that I wanted nothing but basic instruments and really just push the lyrics and melody forward. Some songs are just beautiful because they essentially are - and this is one of them. I hope you enjoy my take on While Your Lips Are Still Red ! x Vocal(s): Bernice Nikki

Have you ever experienced one of those moments where you felt like you will remember what you are seeing right now for the rest of your life? That's exactly how I felt in the middle of watching A Monster Calls. Here is the summary from Amazon.com of the book by Patrick Ness: An unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor. As an avid fairytale fan, I love how the movie goes from fantasy to reality and back and forth with such smooth transitions you are left wondering (even until the end) if what you're watching is just the character's imagination. A beautifully crafted open-ended ending that leave room for discussions and interpretations - my favorite kind. I actually enjoyed this movie more than Spielberg's "BFG" - and that's really saying a lot. This is debatable, but I believe that this movie is not very suitable for children. The theme is quite dark and heavy. Just like how Harry Potter is arguably more suitable for mature audiences. Oh, and my favorite part? The fact that the ending doesn't make you lose all hope for humanity like Del Toro's "Pan" (God, I still got nightmares). Give this one a chance and tell me what you think! PS. I'm ordering the book online. Yes, I love it THAT much. This year has been a wonderful journey where I feel I am slowly taking back the reign of my life. For me, 2015 was the most difficult year so far (let's not talk about it. 2015 did not happen), so this year has been all about healing, recovery and laying ground foundation to a more ideal future. Of course, part of what makes this year special is the people who I am lucky enough to meet this year. So I'd like to dedicate a post to thank everyone who made my birthday a special kind of special. This year, I got a lot of gifts from friends, family and even students. These are the special gifts from the super talented, super かわいい members of Shojo Complex:
